According to Brownwood Police, running a red light in front of a Brownwood Police officer resulted in the arrest of two women on drug charges early Friday morning.

The officer was on patrol when he noticed a vehicle run a red light at the intersection of Avenue K and Fourth Street in Brownwood, and then continue down 4th Street/Southside Drive.

A traffic stop was made in the 2400 block of Southside at approximately 12:22am.  Another officer came to assist and informed the officer making the stop that the driver, identified as 31-year-old Heather Lea Mackey, had recently been arrested for Possession of Controlled Substance, according to the report.  The report states that Mackey consented to a search of the vehicle.   The passenger was identified as 25-year-old Heather Nicole Caudill.

After a search of the vehicle police found brass knuckles, a bag of methamphetamine along with two small baggies containing four pills determined to be controlled substances, according to the report.  There were also several syringes, glass smoking pipes and other drug paraphernalia located, according to police.

The report states that both subjects denied ownership of the property and due to the location of the bag being easily accessible to either subject, Mackey and Caudill were each arrested and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1 less than 1g; Possession of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group 3 less than 28g; Possession of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group 3 less than 28 grams; and two counts of Possession of a Dangerous Drug.  Mackey was also charged with Possession of a Prohibited Weapon.

A third officer, who arrived to assist before Mackey and Caudill were transported, saw Caudill trying to free herself from the handcuffs, the report states.  The handcuffs were then secured through the belt loop of her pants.  The two were transported separately to the jail.  According to police, as Caudill arrived, she was able to free her left hand, open the door of the patrol car and jump out.  She ran toward the Brown County Sheriff’s barn and attempted to climb the gate the report states.  The officer chasing her fired a Taser but missed, the report states.  Caudill stated she would “give up” and not run anymore, then was taken back into custody, according to police.   Walking toward the jail entrance, she tried jerking away from the officer, the report states.   As two Brown County Sheriff’s deputies assisted the officer taking Caudill into the jail, she kicked one of the deputies in the leg, according to the report.

Caudill was additionally charged with Escape While Arrested or Confined and Assault on a Public Servant.

Caudill was held on a total of $92,500 bonds.  Mackey was held on a total of $80,000 in bonds.  Both remained in the custody of the Brown County Jail as of Friday evening.
