Brown County Toys for Kids continues to take donations as Christmas fast approaches, and the program still needs some help from the community before distribution day takes place on Saturday, December 21st.
Donations of toys, gift wrap, gift tags, tape and money are needed as well as volunteers for the distribution day. Volunteers help parents pick out toys for their children or help wrap the selections. Monetary and toy donations help continue the program’s success from year to year, and somehow, every year, the needs are met.
Brown County Toys for Kids is a non-profit program that offers families in need of assistance some help giving their kids, who would not otherwise get any toys, a little brighter Christmas. Families who provide Christmas to their children with gifts of necessities such as clothing and shoes often rely on the program for extra gifts such as toys.
Some of the kids that will receive gifts this year have special needs, and one donor and her family were able to meet one of those special requests. Dr. Tammi Cox (Ledbetter) and her family (pictured above) James, J-dub (not pictured) and Ella Ledbetter were able to purchase a special three-wheel bicycle to meet the needs of one family this Christmas.
Please contact Toys for kids at 325-646-6822 to learn how you can help provide a unique Christmas gift, or which kinds of toys are still needed. One type of toy the program currently needs is Ken dolls according to program founder Wanda Martin. She stated that many Barbies have been donated.
Donations can be delivered to Grand Stars (2323 Belle Plain) or mailed to Toys for Kids, P.O. Box 912, Brownwood, Texas 76804. Other drop-off locations include Brownwood Fire Stations 1 & 2. All proceeds benefit Brown County residents and 100% of donations received go toward the purchase of toys. The entire season is operated by volunteers and program directors of Toys for Kids who work diligently without receiving any income for their service.
A special Non-Smoking Bingo to benefit Toys For Kids will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 18th (hosted by Redmen Lodge) at Grand Starz. So make plans to bring a friend and support Toys For Kids and the children of Brown County.
