Tobie Jo “Mamaw” Denton Gillett, age 79, of Brownwood left her earthly life to be with her Lord on Saturday, March 12, 2011.

A celebration of her life will be held at 2 PM on Tuesday, March 15, at the Gospel Lighthouse Church, 215 Homewood Circle, Early with her grandson, Pastor Jason Studdard officiating assisted by Robby Martin. Burial will follow in the Pottsville Cemetery in Hamilton County under the direction of Heartland Funeral Home of Early.

She was born June 10, 1931 in Hamilton, Texas the daughter of the late Tobe J. and Velvia Viola Smith Fuller. She was raised as a young girl in the Pottsville area and later moved to Bangs where she attended Bangs High School. She later attended cosmetology school in Brownwood, TSTC – Sweetwater, and Howard Payne. She married Marvin “Red” Denton in April of 1947 and later married Raymond Clifford Gillett on March 5, 1986.

She was a cosmetology instructor for 3 years and later worked as the Youth Activity Supervisor at the Texas Youth Commission where she retired after 17 years. She was a very active member of her church and was a charter member of the First Pentecostal Church on Belle Plain in Brownwood and a co-founder of the Gospel Lighthouse Church in Early. She had previously been a member of the Assembly of God Church in Grand Prairie. She had lived in Brownwood most of her life but had also lived in California, Lubbock, and other areas for some time.

In her younger days, she loved to ride horses and attend play days. She loved sewing and quilting, listening to her family play music, spending time with her family, her church and playing volleyball every Sunday with her family. She was a very strong Christian lady who believed that “all things are possible with God”.

She is survived by her children, Caroline Ann Denton Callaway of Brownwood, Marvin Bill Denton Jr. of Early, Wes D. Denton and wife Christy of Santa Anna, Paula Beal of Abilene, Christy Gillett of Brownwood, David Gillett and wife Donna of Hawley, and Kenneth Gillett of Brownwood. She is also survived by 19 Grandchildren, 28 Great Grandchildren, and 3 Great Great Grandchildren, a sister Dixie Gillum and husband Jim of Noble, Oklahoma and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 39 years, Marvin “Red” Denton, her husband of 25 years, Raymond Clifford Gillett, three brothers, Powell Fuller, LaVern Fuller, and Buel Fuller, a sister, Oma Fuller, and a great great granddaughter, Adrian Dream Wesbrook.
