hpusoccerlogoThe Howard Payne men’s soccer team was unable to hold an early lead and fell to the University of Dallas 1-2 in American Southwest Conference action Thursday evening in Richardson, Texas.

HPU’s Luis Tamez scored on a streak down the left side of the field in the 20th minute. The pass came from Shane Cazad to give the Yellow Jackets the early 1-0 lead.

UTD scored just four minutes later when Brian Bienhoff followed up a rebound shot by Michael Darrow.

UTD added their final goal and game winner just seconds before the first half ended on an unassisted goal by Julian Torres from the top of the box.

Malcolm Framjee played all 90 minutes in goal for HPU recording 5 saves. UTD keeper Bailey Williams gained 3 saves in the game.

UTD outshot HPU 18-7 in the game and had 9 corner kicks to HPU’s one.

Howard Payne now stands at 4-3-1 overall and 2-3-0 in ASC action. UTD is at 8-2-0 overall and 5-0-0 in ASC play.
HPU continues their road trip and will play the University of the Ozarks in Clarksville, AR on Saturday.


The Howard Payne University women’s soccer team tied the University of Texas at Dallas 1-1 in American Southwest Conference action on the road Thursday evening.

Howard Payne was able to gain the lead early in the second period on a goal by Haley Clanahan in the 59th minute. Clanahan received a pass from Lauren Hatcher and split the UTD defense to score.

UT Dallas tied the game in the 70th minute when Jean Francis fed Cassie Lydick to score. UTD outshot HPU 28 to 12 in the game.

HPU keeper Adrienne Walker recorded 11 saves in the game. UTD keeper Andrea Jones had six saves.
Howard Payne now stands at 2-3-3 overall and 1-2-2 in ASC play. UTD is nor 4-5-1 overall and 2-2-1 in ASC action.

Howard Payne will continue on their road trip and play the University of the Ozarks in Clarksville, AR on Saturday.
