Brownwood City Manager Emily Crawford released the following information Thursday morning regarding the Brown County flooding and street conditions.
At 6:00 am on Thursday, July 9, 2015, city, county and state response entities assessed the flooding situation in Brownwood. The National Weather Service predicts the Pecan Bayou to crest at about 7:00 am. It is likely that the Bayou will flow over the bridge on East Commerce at that time. Water levels will continue to be high through Thursday morning. TxDOT is manning road closures around the perimeter of the City.
A recent press release from TxDOT stated:
Several teams of TxDOT personnel are stationed at barricades throughout town, helping motorists make it around the flooding safely. Message signs are also in place at key locations to advise motorists of the closures.
Currently, closures include:
- US 67/84 at the Pecan Bayou
- FM 3100 at Salt Creek
- FM 2525 or Williams Ranch Road
Additional closures can be found at www.drivetexas.org. Motorists are being asked to detour to the south around Brownwood using the access road. Those needing to travel north can use FM 279 from the west or US 183 from the east.
Crews will remain in place until water recedes and roads become passable.
There are still multiple street closures in the city including Market Place Blvd. and Riverside Drive, Vine Street Underpass. The public is advised to NOT drive around barricades.
Sand bag stations are still available in Brownwood at the following locations:
Monroe Overpass – Brady and Ave. A
Former Higginbotham Brothers – 1500 Center Ave.
The Brownwood Coliseum at 500 E. Baker is still open as an emergency shelter. The shelter in Early will not open unless necessary.
