A two-vehicle accident blocked W. Austin Avenue temporarily and injured two Thursday morning.
The accident occurred at approximately 8:40 a.m. when a gray Ford Focus traveling south on Beaver stopped at a stop sign and then proceeded into the intersection, striking a small white Ford pickup which was traveling northeast on W. Austin, according to witnesses on scene.
A semi-truck was in the turn lane on Austin, ready to turn north on Beaver Street when he saw the Focus begin to move into the intersection. The driver stated that the white pickup was traveling parallel to his vehicle in the outside lane when the Focus struck it on the side. The impact of the collision sent the white pickup into a metal light pole, causing front-end damage to the vehicle and causing the street light to fall from the pole. The Focus sustained damaged on the front end and passenger side. Both vehicles were towed from the scene.
Emergency workers on scene confirmed that the two female drivers of the vehicles were both transported to Brownwood Regional Medical Center for evaluation and treatment of nonlife-threatening injuries. The driver of the Focus was reported by witnesses to have a laceration to her forehead.
Brownwood Fire Department, Brownwood Police Department and Allegiance EMS responded to the scene.
