Multiple Brown County fire departments fought a couple of large grass fires Thursday evening.

Around 5 p.m., a trash barrel burning started a 20-acre grass fire that threatened some homes in the Blanket area near County Road 327 and CR 321.  Early Volunteer Fire Department urged residents nearby to evacuate.  Fire crews were able to stop the fire and no homes were lost according to Brownwood Fire Marshal Buddy Preston.

Pictured above is a shed that was lost during the fire in Blanket.  Fire crews from Early, Brownwood, Blanket and Lake Bridge responded to the fire.  Salvation Army volunteers arrived on scene to help provide support to firefighters in the form of water, sandwiches, chips, trail mix and beef jerky, according to Salvation Army volunteer Paul Coghlan.

Just as the firefighters were getting the fire in Blanket under control, around 8:00 p.m., another grassfire broke out near the Thrifty community.

Bangs, Lake Bridge and Brownwood Fire Departments responded to the scene.
