On the first day of spring, it was a cold and windy day that even produced a short burst of sleet making it a great day for a competition. It was cold but it could not stop the spirit of the participants of Fit By Faith’s Quest 12 program.
Quest 12: 12 Weeks to a New You is a program created by Fit By Faith© Fitness, designed similar to the popular TV show “The Biggest Loser”. The difference is that people are not eliminated unless they fail to do their part. “The Biggest Loser is extreme and contestants are put on a ranch where their exercise and food is monitored 24/7. We want our participants to learn how to do this while still living their normal lives so that when the Quest is over, they are able to have continued success without spending 8 hours in a gym each day.”, says Krista Johnson, owner of Fit By Faith©.
Their latest challenge, the physical challenge, was a secret until the Saturday at 9am. Teams were instructed to meet at the gym at 8:30am and follow the pilot car to the destination, “Thrill Hill” on CR 553, which was temporarily closed for the event.
Participants had no idea what the challenge would be. Some faced the challenges their minds gave them in the form of fear…exactly what they were going to be learning to conquer. With strong teams of Green, Pink, Orange and Red, they had plenty of spirit. The caravan traveled in decorated vehicles looking as though they were headed to the playoffs and full of participants wearing fun outfits with team colors.
Once they arrived, the teams grouped up, stretched out and got “psyched up” for the challenge before them. Fit By Faith Owner and trainer, Krista Johnson gave the teams their instructions. Starting at the bottom of the hill, they were instructed to race up the hill. At the top, they were to fill a cup full of water and then carry it to the bottom of the hill where they poured it into the team bucket. Each bucket had a plastic egg in it. The first team to fill their bucket, making the egg float out, would win the challenge.
Everyone had their challenges, whether it was just their minds telling this was too hard or other things like previous illnesses, their age, their weight, not being in “shape”, or just fearing falling and rolling down the hill. With teammates and trainers cheering them on, everyone eventually conquered the hill…some even twice!
All the teams gave it their best and the red team eventually won the thrill of having their egg float out…to victory!
After the event, all teams returned to the Fit By Faith gym to rally and celebrate their achievements. Red won the challenge for finishing first. The individuals that stood out for this month of the quest were also recognized. Joey Wilson lost the most body fat, 5.5%, losing a total of 41 lbs since the start of the quest eight weeks ago. Sheri Wells lost the most inches, having worked off a total of 13 inches over 4 weeks. The team that lost the most pounds was Red having lost a total of 42 pounds during the second 4 week period. The team with the most inches lost was a tie between Pink and Green, both having lost 48.25 inches over 4 weeks. The team with the most body fat lost was Pink having lost a total of 21.5% during the past 4 week period.
Inspired by their own achievements, the participants left feeling proud and ready to conquer the next challenge.
