A three vehicle accident occurred shortly before 10:00pm Wednesday night on CC Woodson Road sending a 17-year-old Brownwood High School student to the hospital.
According to DPS Trooper Mike Sams, a Cadillac pulled out in front of traffic from the Victory Life Church causing a Ford pickup driven by the 17-year-old victim to swerve to the right over a curb into a grassy area. Sams said that this caused him to lose control of his vehicle which then headed back into oncoming traffic hitting a GMC Yukon. The crash, according to Sams, was “an angled head-on collision”.
“The kid did an awesome job because he would have directly hit the passenger,” stated Sams. “It would have been a T-bone right in the door if he hadn’t.”
Investigation of the crash revealed calculations showing that the 17-year-old victim was not speeding but travelling under the speed limit at the time of the accident.
According to Trooper Sams, when he arrived at the hospital to check on the victim, there were about 50 kids in the emergency room anxiously waiting to hear of his condition. Upon arrival, the victim’s condition was serious with a bad concussion; however he was released after observation on Thursday. No other serious injuries were reported.
