The American Southwest Conference today announced its men’s and women’s soccer players of the week and Howard Payne won three spots in the Player of the Week awards.
WOMEN’S OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Howard Payne sophomore forward Leslie Jones scored four of her team’s seven goals over a 3-0 week, including the game-winner against conference opponent Schreiner. Jones, who takes the league’s top weekly offensive award for the second time this season, scored two goals against Schreiner and the University of Dallas. Her play also helped the Lady Jackets secure a spot in the ASC tournament.
WOMEN’S DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK Kassey Nix, D, Fr.
Howard Payne freshman defender Kassey Nix spearheaded a unit that recorded three shutouts over a 3-0 week. Nix and company held Texas Lutheran, Schreiner and the University of Dallas to an average of just eight shots per game. Nix’s play helped the Lady Jackets lock up a berth in the ASC tournament.
MEN’S OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK Luis Tamez, MF, Fr.
Howard Payne freshman midfielder Luis Tamez scored both of his team’s goals in a 2-1 win over Schreiner and also added an assist in a victory over Texas Lutheran to help the Yellow Jackets secure a berth in the ASC tournament. Tamez’s play also helped the Yellow Jackets to a 3-0 week with a non-conference victory against the University of Dallas.
