Brownwood High School had three more commits to play college football as Dylan Lewis, Bryan Johnson and Braxton Kilgo signed letters of intent on Wednesday, National Signing Day.

Lewis and Johnson signed with Hardin Simmons University in Abilene while Kilgo committed to West Texas A&M University in Canyon, Texas (a Division II program).

BHS Athletic Director and Head Football Coach Chuck Howard stated that the three are going to be missed and have contributed a lot to this past year’s football program.

“Bryan is somebody who made a tremendous amount of improvement between his junior and senior years.  He’s a really good kickoff return guy and was named a 1st Team All-District Kickoff Returner,” said Howard.  “He’s an excellent receiver as well.”

Johnson came to Brownwood in the 8th grade.  He plans to study business, majoring in accounting while at HSU.

“Dylan was a great leader for us.  He had a very good senior year.  During his time at Brownwood High School, he was a good football player and a hard worker,” said Howard.

Lewis has attended Brownwood throughout his football career.  He plans to pursue a major in education while at HSU.

“Braxton is a tremendous leader.  He has a lot of heart and desire and a good work ethic which he showed in the way he worked on Friday nights,” Howard stated.  “He too has a bright future with West Texas A&M, if he gets in there and fights.”

Kilgo came to Brownwood from Early High School during his sophomore year.  He plans to pursue a business major with a mass communications minor and one day be a sports analyst.

Howard explained that many freshmen football players get to college and become discouraged quickly after having to start their football careers over at the college level.

“The key (to making it in college football) is that they have got to be willing to stay and prove themselves again.  If they stay, they will all have the opportunity to play,” said Howard.  “Those who continue to work hard find a way to get on the field.  They will face challenges early, but they all have something to contribute if they hang on and stay a while.”

Howard thanked the players for their hard work and dedication to the Lions program.

“We want to thank these three guys for not only playing, but for your leadership.  You have represented Brownwood High School well.  We’re excited for you guys, you will do some great things,” said Howard during the signing ceremony.

“I’m so grateful that I got to coach you while you were in this program.  We know you have a great future ahead of you.”
