Three athletes from Brownwood High School showed their stuff this week at the Region I-3A Track and Field Championships held at Fuller track in Lubbock on Monday and Tuesday of this week. Two Brownwood Lions and one Lady Lion qualified and will travel to state.
In the boys division, Brownwood’s Derek Longoria secured first place in discus at the regional meet with a throw of 162-10 qualifying him for the state meet.
Brownwood Lion Josh Reece also secured a spot at state when he came in second in the boys 200. Brownwood’s Caitlyn Haynes also earned a state bid in the girls 800-meter run, by finishing second in a very close race.
The top two finishers in each event of the regional meet qualify for the Class 3A state meet which is scheduled for May 13-14 at Myers Stadium in Austin.
