A graveside funeral service for Thomas Gill, age 89, of Brownwood, will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, September 15, 2017 in Eastlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Heartland Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 6:00 until 7:00.
Mr. Gill died Tuesday, September 12, 2017 in Brownwood.
Thomas Milton Gill was born on May 9, 1928 in Brownwood to Tom and Lillie (Crews) Gill. He attended Brownwood schools and graduated from Brownwood High School in the Class of 1945. He went on to serve in the US Army for a couple of years before attending North Texas State University on the G.I. Bill. After graduation from N.T.S.U., Thomas served his country again in the Coast Guard. After his Coast Guard service, Thomas began a long career in ceramic and clay sales.
On August 20, 1950, Thomas married Joann McCullough in Brownwood. They were longtime members of Union Presbyterian Church, where he served as an Elder. He was a member of Brownwood Masonic Lodge, #279.
Thomas is survived by a son, Michael Gill and wife Joan of Little Rock, Arkansas; two daughters, LeeAnn Frazier and husband Ray of Brownwood and Nancy Strasner of Brownwood; grandchildren, Chris Dyer and wife Pam, Shelby Jones and husband Scott, Sarah Strasner, and Ross Strasner; two great-grandchildren, Jake and Katie Dyer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 66 years, Joann Gill in July of 2017, son-in-law, Josh Strasner and a brother, James Gill.
The family requests that memorials be made to Union Presbyterian Church.
