Thelma Lucas, age 100, of Brownwood, passed away Friday, May 30, 2014 in Brownwood. Graveside funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 1, at Mud Creek Cemetery in Brown County, Texas, with Rodney Martin officiating. Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.
She was born Thelma Opal Pasley on July 8, 1913 in Coleman County, Texas, a daughter of Millard Andrew Pasley and Sarah Slate Martin Pasley. She grew up in Shields where she attended school. Following graduation, she attended Southwest Texas State and received her teaching certificate. She taught school one year at Shields. On June 17, 1933 she married Weldon Lucas and he preceded her in death in 2004.
Mrs. Lucas lived most of her life in Coleman and Brown Counties. She was a homemaker who loved to cook and take care of her family.
She is survived by four grandchildren, Kenny Day of Waco, Monty and Shawna Day of Prosper, Jeff and Laurie Day of Brownwood and Sari and Jim Vanderveer of Valley Mills; 11 great-grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one sister, Sena Fryar of Brownwood; numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Dolores McCoury; brothers and sisters, Barney Martin, Ella Pasley, Sam Pasley, Manuel Pasley, Maggie Sheffield and Howard Pasley; a grandson, Barry Day.
Visitation will be held Saturday from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home, 400 W. Pecan Street, Coleman, Texas.
