BrownwoodNews – The Texas Transportation Commission approved approximately $20 million in federal transit funding at its December meeting. The funding helps rural transit agencies replace 271 buses.

The funds were awarded to 35 public transportation providers in rural areas across the state. Funding includes $7 million in grant funding from the Federal Transit Administration’s (FTA) Buses and Bus Facilities Infrastructure Investment Program awarded to TxDOT in September.

The public transportation funds administered by TxDOT support transit programs serving 41 percent of the state’s population and covering more than 96 percent of the state’s land area. Residents of these areas use these transit services to get to work, school, shopping and medical appointments.
