Lake Brownwood Volunteer Fire Department has a new slip-on unit thanks to a grant administered by Texas A&M Forest Service.
This new, more efficient and dependable unit replaces an older metal tank and can be used for wildland and structural fires.
Lake Brownwood VFD Fire Chief Randy Feight was excited to receive the new slip-on unit. “The [new] unit allows for more water capacity with a 1,500-gallon tank, a foam unit, and pump with a higher pump rating,” Chief Feight said.
The slip-on unit is mounted in the back of a custom built bed and is especially effective in handling off-road grass fires and wildland fires. Coupled with the foam unit fire suppression system firefighters have a piece of equipment that allows them greater capacity when fighting fires in their community.More than 85 percent of fire departments in the state of Texas are either completely or mostly operated by volunteers. Texas A&M Forest Service passes approximately $24.3 million along to volunteer fire departments across the state every year, helping them purchase equipment to better protect lives and property.
