Teresa Martinez, 87 of Brownwood, crossed back into the arms of her Heavenly Father on Saturday, April 22, 2017. Born December 12, 1929 to Rey and Sesaria Martinez in Burkett, Texas, Teresa was one of seven children.
Ms. Martinez often shared memories of growing up in Burkett, as well as in Coleman. Among favorite childhood memories, she included time spend learning to fish and grow crops on her family’s farm, and also sewing, canning and cooking in the family kitchen. Teresa also had interest in and pursued her interest in sketching, drawing and painting.
At the start of her working career, Teresa moved with a sister to Brownwood, where she spent several years working for Shaw’s Dry Cleaners. She later moved on into her much loved element painting signs and billboards with Joe Allen Adams Signs. She was integral in sketching, designing and erecting the bell tower in front of the McArthur Academy on Austin Avenue. Prior to retiring, Martinez worked as a PBX operator at both Brownwood Regional Hospital and Coleman Community Hospital. She enjoyed several hobbies including sewing, quilting, knitting, crochet and decorating cakes. Miss Martinez never married, nor had children of her own. She spent countless hours sharing her time and talents with nieces and nephews.
Aunt Teresa will be missed. She leaves a legacy of love, compassion, loyalty, strength and grace. She was preceded in death by her parents and five sisters: Petra Jaime, A.B. Martinez, Julia Ramirez, Frances Lopez and Celia Salinas. Her death was also preceded by a niece and two nephews.
Left to cherish her memory are a brother, Paul Martinez, nieces Teri Bollinger and husband Ronnie, Rachel Dodge (Brownwood), Melissa Barnes and husband Keith (Wilson, OK), Lena Ferrer and husband Sergio (Euless, TX ), nephews Adrian Martinez, Isaac Martinez (Ft. Worth, TX) and Luke Ramirez (Dallas, TX). A number of great-nieces and nephews also feel a tremendous loss due to her passing.
