Brownwood Police responded to a motor vehicle accident Sunday night involving a pickup truck and a preteen boy on a bicycle in the 2300 block of 14th Street.

“A preteen boy was riding his bike, just goofing around, near the curves of 14th Street… was hit by the pickup and received only minor injuries,” stated Assistant Police Chief James Fuller of the Brownwood Police Department.

Fuller also explained that this area is a dangerous place to ride a bicycle although the area does have a reduced speed of 20 mph.

Police say that the driver fled the scene before officers arrived.  The suspect vehicle was described as a late model (1980s) Ford pickup truck which is either red and white or possibly brown and white, according to police reports, and has yet to be located and identified.

Officers performed a search of the area; however the vehicle was not located.  The scene was investigated and parts that fell off the truck were collected.  These parts confirmed that the truck was a Ford.

The young male is said to have sustained abrasions to his arms and head which were not considered to be life threatening injuries.

No suspects have been named at the time of the investigation.  The incident is still under investigation.
