JumpingIntheHallsIt may come as a surprise to some, but teachers are generally just as excited for that last bell to ring as the students. While we wave our students off, sniffling and hoping for their every success in the future, in the back of our minds remains one thought….SUMMER!

Summertime for teachers is a chance to catch up – on housework, reading, learning, resting, playing – and any number of things we don’t have time for during the school year.

The last week of school is traditionally filled with a flurry of paperwork, last minute grades, awards, celebrations, and cleaning. This year has been no different. We watch our students for the last time, knowing they are on to bigger and better things. Leaving sixth grade means entering a whole new world of education – increased responsibility, increased opportunities – and we are very excited to see our students embark on this journey.

And…again…it is summer. Sleeping in past 6 am…having a day to do what we need or want to do. Spending time with family…I am envisioning a camping trip – or two.

I think the point is, the end of school is – as always – bittersweet. We are proud to see them go on, but a little sniffly at the thought of not seeing them every day.

I’d like to take this moment of opportunity to give a shout out to all the parents, students, teachers, and administrators who are such a huge part of our lives: thank you for your continuing support, humor, and patience. Without everyone working together, a teacher’s job is made much more difficult. All of you helping makes it a little bit easier.

To the kids who are leaving us….well, we wish you all the best, much success and happiness. We know you will go far!

And have a great summer!

Here…let me hold the door open for you…..
