HPUCJinternlunche

Eleven Howard Payne University students were recently honored for the successful completion of criminal justice internships. The students were recognized at a luncheon held at the Bettie and Robert Girling Center for Social Justice at HPU.

Students are required to complete 150 hours of service with an agency or organization which reflects three credit hours toward their major in criminal justice. Internships include working with “at risk” students and adults at local, state and federal agencies as well as positions with law firms, law enforcement agencies and many other opportunities that help students prepare for a future in the field of criminal justice.

“We try to match students with the positions that reflect their goals and interests in the field,” said Lynn Humeniuk, director of the criminal justice program at HPU. “This collaborative effort has been an exciting and interesting opportunity for HPU to work with the community.”

Participating students were Holden Barrett of Georgetown, intern at Brown County Sheriff’s Office; Melanie Cain of Eastland, intern at Early Police Department; Jake Chastain of Brownwood, intern at Brown County Adult Probation Department; Demetrius Cody of Killeen, intern at Texas Youth Commission Unit I; Aaron Martin of Beeville, intern at Brown County Juvenile Probation; Gavin Middleton of Wenatchee, Wash., intern at Brownwood Police Department; Jonathan Murphy of Brownwood, intern at Haynes Law Firm; Jhonoven Pati of Copperas Cove, intern at Brown County Boys and Girls Club; Kinsey Scroggins of Pittsburg, Texas, intern at Coggin Avenue Baptist Church; and Vanessa Stanley of Brownwood, intern at Brown County Juvenile Probation.
