Brownwood students and teachers have donated items and their time to host an auction during the Brownwood High School varsity basketball games on Friday, January 25th, to benefit fellow student Esmeralda Lares.
Esmeralda is a student at Brownwood High School who had brain surgery on December 21, 2012 to remove a large tumor. Doctors removed a little over 90 percent of it according to friends, and it was determined to be cancerous.“Esme and her family are wonderful people. She is one of our deaf students, and instead of feeling sorry for herself, she has decided that she can do anything she sets her mind to,” said BHS Athletic Administrative Assistant Lisa Jaso. “She has taught several of her friend’s sign language and they in turn help her to accomplish her goals.”
According to friends at BHS, her family does not have any insurance at this time and Esmeralda will soon be returning to Scott and White in Temple to receive radiation treatments to try and eradicate the remaining cancer.
The auction will be held during the girls and boys varsity basketball games on Friday. There will be a beautiful quilt along with several homemade cakes to be auctioned off. The quilt was made by Connie Sliger – one of Esme’s favorite teachers at BHS. Those interested in bidding on the quilt but are unable to attend the games may contact Lisa Jaso at the BHS Athletic Office – 646-0703 to arrange for a proxy bid.
