HPUlogoThe Howard Payne men’s and women’s cross country teams started their 2010 season at the Hardin-Simmons University Cross Country Short Course this weekend and both teams had strong showings.  The HSU short Course was a 2 mile run for the women and 3 mile run for the men. 

HPU Carissa Zarate was able to medal finishing 7th overall.  The women’s team finished 2nd with all HPU runners finishing in the top 20 (13th, 17th, 19th, and 20th).

John Villagomez and Benton Warren finished in the top 10 at 6th and 9th respectively.  The rest of the men’s team finished 13th, 15th, 20th, and 21th. 

“I am very proud of our team and the way they performed this weekend,” said head cross country coach David Foster.  “Next weekend we will be at our normal distances and I expect us to do even better.” 

The teams will run next weekend at the Bill Libby/McMurry Invitational in Abilene, Texas.
