Brownwood News – Local businessman Steve Fryar recently announced his intentions to run as a write-in candidate for Brown County Judge. Fryar is the president of P F & E Oil Company and Freedom Distributors, as well as the owner of Southside Joint Venture, a real estate holding company and a partner in Fryar Energy.
Fryar confirmed he filed the required paperwork to run as a write-in candidate for Brown County Judge on August 20th. According to Texas Election Code, sections 146.021-0232, write-in candidates must submit a declaration of write-in candidacy, pay a filing fee, or submit a petition with the required number of signatures as outlined in the election code, with the ordained county office no later than 5 p.m. of the 78th day before general election day.
During the Republican Primary Election held in March, challenger Dr. Paul Lilly beat incumbent Ray West for the county judge seat. Ray West has been the Brown County Judge since 1992. There is no Democratic challenger for the upcoming November election.
When asked why he did not run in the Republican Primary, Fryar explained he did not feel the need to seek the county judge seat until now.
Below is the full press release sent by Fryar:
Fryar said he will file the paperwork August 21st to run as the write-in candidate for Brown County Judge, “After prayerful consideration and meeting with numerous people across Brown County, I will file the paperwork on Monday to run as the write-in candidate for Brown County Judge. Humbled and encouraged by the outpouring of support, I would be honored to serve Brown County in this capacity.”
Fryar added, “A successful and effective county judge must build a consensus among the other elected officials for a county to be truly successful. That leadership, understanding and commitment to the team of individuals and the public is critical. Having worked closely with almost every one of the elected officials in Brown County, I am confident that we can build the consensus and forge a brighter vision for our future.”
It is imperative that our County Judge knows our elected officials in Washington, D.C. and Austin. Fryar has worked side by side with Congressman Mike Conaway, State Senator Dawn Buckingham and State Representative Mike Lang since they were first elected. Fryar has worked with them on issues such as education, water rights, gun rights, property rights and others. Fryar and his wife, Dianne, attended the inauguration of President Donald Trump last year in Washington, D.C. and he was a Delegate to the Texas GOP Convention in San Antonio this past June.

He has over 38 years of business expertise coupled with numerous years in leadership positions on boards and committees to continue building on the successes of Brown County. As a conservative businessman in Brown County, he understands the issues that are important to us.
