On Thursday, June 20, 2019, Stephen (Steve) Kent Price, dearly loved husband, brother, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather went home to be with his Lord and Savior at the age of 74.
Steve was born on September 20, 1944 in Las Vegas, Nevada to Philip Loy Price and Nina Ruth (Easley) Price. His father was stationed at the Air Force base there. After the family moved back to Texas, they settled in Stephenville, and Steve graduated from Stephenville High School in 1963. After high school, Steve went on to attend Tarleton State University, Hill College, and Howard Payne University, where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in 1973. Then, he attended classes at UNT in order to earn his teaching certificate in marketing. He used his barbering skills to put himself through college, and after earning his teaching certificate, he spent 11 years teaching at Hillsboro High School before returning to a job he truly loved – being a barber. For Steve, the most rewarding elements of his professional career were the relationships he forged with his customers while wielding his scissors and razor. He truly loved talking with and praying with his customers. He spent over 40 years as a barber.
Steve had a passion for reading and learning. He had a robust and devout faith. He could often be found studying his Bible in between customers at his shop. He also enjoyed reading westerns and histories. He took great pleasure in sports and was avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys, Dallas Mavericks, and the Texas Rangers. In his younger days, Steve loved riding his motorcycle, driving fast cars, and adventuring out on the open road. However, Steve’s greatest joy on earth was his family. He loved them deeply and took great pride in their accomplishments. He was known for his abiding faith, his infectious laugh, and his devotion to his family.
Steve was preceded in death by his mother, Nina Ruth and father, Philip. He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Bobbie (Eville) Price of Brownwood; his sister, Suzan (Price) Parker and her husband Jerry Parker of Tyler; his children Nathan Price and his wife Mary (Williams) Price of Hillsboro, Timothy Price, of Stephenville, Bonnie (May) Nichols and her husband Michael of Round Rock, Leesa (May) Miller and her husband Matthew of Austin; grandchildren, Lindsi Price, Kayla (Lesley) and husband Drew Youngblood, Emily Lesley, Jayden Lesley, Graham Nichols, Grace Nichols, and Gregory Nichols; and great-grandchildren, Ashton Youngblood and Bryce Youngblood; as well as several dearly loved and fun-loving cousins and extended family members.
A memorial service will be held, Monday, June 24, 2019, at the Austin Avenue Church of Christ, at 11 o’clock a.m. Visitation will be at 10 o’clock a.m. in the church foyer. In lieu of flowers, Steve’s family requests donations in his honor to Cherokee Home for Children. Additionally, the family wants to wholeheartedly thank Heart of Texas Internal Medicine (especially Mike and Stacy) and Kindred Hospice for their excellent care.
