Written by Amanda Coers – Texan artists are converging upon the Depot Civic & Cultural Center in Brownwood, bringing their work in the hopes of being accepted into the 19th annual Stars of Texas Juried Art Exhibit. Artists may bring their completely dry, framed work between the hours of 5:00-6:30 p.m. on Friday, January 27th or Saturday, January 28th from 9:00 a.m. to noon.  Visit their website for rules and media accepted for consideration at this year’s Stars of Texas Juried Art Exhibit.

Once artists have submitted their pieces for review, it will be up to one man, this year’s juror: Ben Sum, a Professor of Art at San Angelo State University in San Angelo, Texas.

Mr. Sum received his Master of Fine Arts degree in painting from Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas. He currently teaches course work in painting and drawing. Before moving to San Angelo, Mr. Sum was a member of the art faculty at Western Texas College in Snyder, Texas. Mr. Sum has conducted many figure drawing and portraiture workshops in the West Texas area and at the Hong Kong Visual Art Center, as well as participated in many mural projects in Hong Kong and in West Texas.

The exhibit itself will open to the public February 5th through 17th at the Depot Civic and Cultural Center in Brownwood.

The Salon des Refusés will open once again to artists to display their works that do not make the 2017 Stars of Texas Exhibit and will be held at the Brownwood Art Association Art Center which is located at 215 Fisk Avenue.  The Salon des Refusés will also be open from February 5th through 17th.
