Jana Herndon

Jana Herndon is a glassblower from Abilene, Texas.  She specializes in pendants for jewelry, marbles and Micro Mosaics.  While she traveled Italy, she found a desire to learn the art of micro mosaics.

Many of the old pictures have been made into micro mosaics in the Vatican to preserve the artworks which were deteriorating.  She found glass blowing classes in Atlanta and started to learn the process.  She thought that she would learn to pull the glass to make the pictures, but found an entire new world in marbles and pendants also.

Frank Griffin is a 1976 graduate of Howard Payne University and a 1978 graduate of Baylor Law School.  He practiced law in Brown County for over 35 years, serving County Attorney, First Assistant District Attorney and County Court at Law Judge.  He currently serves as a Retired Judge and sits by assignment in District Courts at Law throughout West Texas.

Frank’s interest in woodcarving began as a youth member of the Boy Scouts of America.  He earned his woodcarving merit badge at Camp Billy Gibbons, located near Richland Springs, Texas.  Largely self-taught, he began to teach woodcarving to Boy Scouts when he began to work with Scouts at Camp Billy Gibbons, and in 2000, his wife Janet joined him on the camp staff teaching leatherwork and basketry.  Together they taught handicrafts at Camp Billy Gibbons for the next 14 years.  In addition to teaching woodcarving at Camp Billy Gibbons, Frank has instructed the merit badge at Camp Tonkawa, located at Buffalo Gap near Abilene, and merit badge seminars at Abilene and Stephenville for many years.

ClintRobertsClint Roberts – Caricatures

Clint Roberts brings a unique art interest to the Stars of Texas Juried Art Exhibit on Tuesday by demonstrating the drawing of caricatures.  Roberts is a member of the National Caricature Network and also the Brownwood Art Association.

“I love to draw,” Roberts said, “Drawing caricatures is a great way to make new friends.”

Roberts has been doing caricatures since 1983 after a visit to Six Flags Over Texas.

“There are no quick tricks. You learn by drawing well, and the most important person in your caricature is the one you are drawing at the time,” he said.

Roberts has studied with and been influenced by many instructors over the years. Two instructors from Brownwood who stand out in his mind are Winnona Young Pierson and Maurine Stewart.
