hpubaseballKERRVILLE, Texas – The Howard Payne softball team split games with Schreiner University 4-3 and 6-7 in American Southwest Conference action Monday afternoon.

In game one, Howard Payne was down 3-2 after the first inning. The Lady Jackets scored two in the third to take the 4-3 lead. Haleigh Caraway held Schreiner scoreless after the opening inning to pick up the win. Caraway only allowed eight hits in the seven innings of work. Ashley Silva had a two-run homer in the first and also singled in a run in the third.

In game two, the Lady Jackets held a 6-3 advantage going into the bottom of the seventh. HPU gave up 4 runs in the botton of the inning to lose 6-7. Kayla Castillo picked up the loss for HPU pitching 6.1 innings giving up 10 hits. Haleigh Caraway and Mallory Wood each had two hits and 2 RBI in the game. 

Howard Payne stands at 4-11 overall and 1-5 in ASC play and Schreiner is 4-10 overall and 2-4 in ASC action. The Lady Jackets will play Sull Ross State next in Brownwood on the 26th and 27th.
