The Howard Payne Lady Jacket softball team split a double header with Austin College dropping the first game 4-1 and a secure 7-1 win in the second game .
After the first inning, the score was 2-1 Austin College giving them the momentum to put up 2 more runs in the second, bringing the score 4-1. The Lady Jackets were unable to muster any offense the remainder of the game giving Austin College the win in game one.
Austin College’s Ashley Johnson pitched all seven innings, giving up five hits and one earned run for the complete game win. Melissa Hall was charged with the loss giving up two earned runs.
Bouncing back in the second game, Howard Payne took the game over in the third. HPU scored six runs and held Austin College scoreless for the rest of the game.
Mallory Wood went 2-3 at the plate knocking in three RBIs and scoring one run for the Lady Jackets. Haleigh Caraway picked up the win, giving up no runs from the six batters she faced in the third and fourth innings.
Both Austin College and Howard Payne start off the year with a record of 1-1.
The Lady Jackets will be back in action on the road in Sherman, Texas, Feb. 20 to take on Austin College again.
