Brownwood News – A post on the Brownwood Police Department’s Facebook Page asking for help locating a missing elderly woman was quickly shared over 100 times. Within minutes, police received tips from the community regarding the woman’s whereabouts.
“This is just one of the things that makes the Brownwood community so special,” said Brownwood Police Chief Terry Nichols in a post on the Facebook Page. “Within 19 minutes of posting about an endangered missing elderly citizen, we had multiple people posting messages about where they had seen her and very specific information. That led us to be able to focus our resources and quickly locate the missing person who had been out in the cold for hours, miles away from her home. This was done within 35 minutes of posting to Facebook.”
The original post shared on the page Friday morning shared photos of the woman and her dog:
MISSING PERSON ALERT! Mary Etta Roberts, 78 years of age, 5’5″ 130lbs long gray hair with long bangs in front. Usually has hair pulled back. Unknown clothing description. The brown dog in photo is also missing. Last heard from on 12/14/17 in the area of Poindexter St in Brownwood. If you see Mary and her dog or know where they may be, please call 911.
With tips from the community, Brownwood Animal Control Officers Sarah Osborn and Judy Williams located the woman walking near Howard Payne University.
“Thank you to our citizens who helped and took the time to provide us the information we needed to safely locate the missing person reunite her with her family,” Chief Nichols said.
