brownwoodnewssnowmanTexas weather, you can never quite predict what it might do from one year to the next.  2010 is proving to be one of the coldest winters people in the Brownwood area can remember.  And today is no exception.  It is cold and beautifully snowy!  Guess the ground hog was right!

Several of the Big Country schools were closed, some even in the Brownwood area, but not Brownwood Early, Bangs or Zephyr…students and teachers alike braved the snow and bad roads to get those benchmark tests done today.  Most did get half of a snow day, dismissing early around lunch time.  The good news is that they won’t have to make today up like some schools.  Our summer is going to be as scheduled as far as we can tell.

For today, the weather “gurus” were predicting anywhere from 4-6 inches of accumulation and so far it looks like well over 4 inches so far in town.  The cars that are parked and the little snow drifts seem to be around 6-8 inches.  Travel was a little tricky, especially on the overpasses, which were not closed but plenty slick.  With some very inexperienced at driving in snow and ice, that is our biggest worry, next to the unexpected patches of ice.  Be careful out there.

Brownwood News travelled around a few streets this morning and took some snow pictures for you to enjoy.  Stay warm!
