Brownwood News – Courtnie Raechell Smith, daughter of Julie Smith, has been named the 2016-17 Valedictorian of Early High School. During her time at Early High School, Courtnie was a member of Key Club International, Student Council, National Honor Society, Band, PALS, and UIL.
While at Early High School, Courtnie has served as a drum major, student body vice-president, and Key Club webmaster. She has been an active participant in the youth fair winning both Grand and Reserve Champion in the clothing division. As a UIL participant, Courtnie placed 4th in regional Headline Writing.
Courtnie is very involved in the community and volunteers her time in a variety of ways. To date, Courtnie has over 700 service hours as a Key Club member, and over 500 hours serving the Central Texas Conference Chrysalis. As a junior, Courtnie was selected by EHS staff to attend the Comanche Electric Cooperative Leadership Conference. Additionally, Courtnie was chosen by the staff of EHS as the October 2016 Junior Rotarian.
Upon graduation, Courtnie plans to attend Tarleton State University where she will major in music education.
Bethany Morgan Kirk has been named Early High School’s Salutatorian for 2016-17. Bethany is the daughter of Kevin and Lauren Kirk. While at Early High School, Bethany has been involved in a number of clubs and organizations such Key Club, Student Council, Band, and Choir.
Additionally, Bethany has served as Key Club editor, Student Council secretary, and received the AP English 3 Award.
Bethany is active in her church youth group, and volunteers her time in the church nursery. Bethany has also spent time in the mission field, traveling to Uganda on two occasions.
Bethany’s future plans include attending the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor where she will major in psychology and minor in exercise sports science.
