On Saturday, March 9,2012, I attended the funeral for one of Brownwood’s well-known residents. The service for Orus Stokes was nice, well attended, had memories shared.
The purpose of this letter is to say ‘THANK YOU’ to the residents of Early and Brownwood who showed respect for the funeral procession as we traveled the road from the funeral home to the cemetery.
I grew up seeing the act of pulling to the side of the roadway when a funeral passed—but living in a large city when I was grown, never witnessed that being done. The tradition still holds in smaller communities (obviously), and is greatly appreciated.
