An electrical substation in Brown County experienced a small fire that caused energy to be interrupted across Brownwood for a brief moment on Thursday afternoon.

At approximately 1:45 p.m. lights blinked at Brownwood High School, a local doctor’s office, the Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce and many homes throughout the city.  One local manufacturing plant stated that the energy blink caused it to go offline briefly as well.

Brownwood Fire Department was called to the substation, located in the 2900 block of Morris Shepherd Drive, where some birds had caused a small fire.  Upon their arrival on scene, they found the fire in the substation had spread to surrounding grass which was approximately a half acre in size.  According to firefighters, the fire was quickly extinguished and did not threaten any structures.

Pictured above and below are photos of the burnt grass around the substation.
