The Brown County Sheriff’s office made a request today of County Commissioners to authorize the Sheriff’s office to apply for a pair of grants that, if awarded, will add two new positions in the Sheriff’s office.
Captain Tony Aaron asked commissioners to allow the Sheriff’s office to apply for the grants through the Violence Against Women Act and the Criminal Justice Division of the Governor’s office.
The first grant would fund a new Domestic Violence Officer position at the Sheriff’s office to assist in investigations with this growing problem. The second grant would fund a Highway Interdiction officer who would work on highways leading into Brown County to help better control incoming drug traffic.
Commissioners unanimously approved the Sheriff’s office’s request to move forward in the application process of these grants.
