Brownwood News – As a part of the Subaru Share the Love Event, the Brownwood Senior Citizens Center can benefit. Subaru partners with Meals on Wheels America between now and January 2nd to donate $250 for each vehicle sold or leased. “The amount of money that is donated to Meals on Wheels America, we as local providers, can share a part of that pie,” said Angie Dees, Brownwood Senior Center Program Director.
In addition, the Brownwood Senior Center is having their own Share the Warmth Blanket Drive from now through December 18.
“We’re asking the public to donate new blankets, full size throws or bed blankets that seniors can use to stay warm during the winter season,” Dees said.
The public can drop off new blankets or full size throws at the Brownwood Senior Citizens Center to be distributed to homebound senior citizens on the Senior Center’s Home Delivery Program. Any extra blankets will be donated to Good Samaritan to help local families in need.
“As you all know, seniors have to make choices on what they spend the small amount of money they have on. It’s food, prescriptions and their utilities and not necessarily in that order,” Dees said. “They cut back where they can, which is their utilities, so there are many seniors who will stay in a very cold home so they can afford to buy their food and prescriptions,” Dees said.
The Brownwood Senior Center, on any given weekday, serves approximately 300 meals to residents, about half of those are home delivered meals. The Senior Center is located just south of the Coliseum at 110 South Greenleaf.
