Funeral Services for Selma James, age 92, of Brownwood, will be held Saturday November 05, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Davis-Morris Funeral Home in Brownwood with Lynn Rice and Andy Hollinger officiating, interment to follow at Trickham Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel. She passed away Thursday November 03, 2011 in Brownwood, Texas. Selma was born on February 09, 1919 in Loraine, Texas to Fred and Ethel (Haygood) Moore.
She married Johnny James on February 08, 1936 in Colorado City, Texas; they were married for 58 years, she was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and active member of Hillcrest Baptist Church. Selma enjoyed working for her church, crocheting, playing cards and board games; she worked at Brownwood ISD and TYC as a food server for several years before her retirement.
Survivors include her 5 sons and daughters-in-law; Howard and Loma James of Lake Brownwood, Darrell and Laura James of Lake Brownwood, Billy and Diane James of Grape Creek, TX, Randall and Glenda James of Brownwood, and Ricky and Linda James of Clyde, TX. She is also survived by a sister, Sue Rawlings of Sweetwater, TX, her closest and best friend; Margie Cagle; 13 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Selma is preceded in death by her husband Johnny, her parents, 4 brothers, and 6 sisters.
