On a very cold night in Stephenville, the Brownwood Lions fell in the bi-district playoff game against Graham by a score of 52-11.  In a second match up of the season, Graham remained strong on offense and defense and dominated the game, especially in the second half.

The Lions were only able to make two scoring drives during the game.  In the first quarter a field goal put Brownwood on the scoreboard.  In the second quarter, the Lions were able to get a touchdown and a two point conversion.  They remained scoreless in the second half.

“We got whipped on both sides of the ball and we didn’t move the ball down the field,” said Brownwood Head Coach Chuck Howard.  “Graham is a good football team and we didn’t play as good as we needed to.  We got beat up front on both sides of the ball.”

Despite the end results, Howard did note the effort the Lions made despite the many injured players at this point in the season.

“Having 7 players out, 6 of them starters, it does make a difference when you go to throw the ball,” said Howard.  “They certainly would have made a difference in the game.”

Howard stated that he was proud of the way the Lions played with heart, “They did the best they could.”

There were 19 seniors playing their last high school football game tonight, according to Howard.

“I’m proud of the seniors’ leadership and their dedication to the program.  They worked extremely hard and made many sacrifices.  I’m proud of the effort they made,” said Howard.  “We didn’t get to finish what we wanted to do this year, but we played a lot of young players this year and they a great job.”

Howard stated that he was proud of the younger players that stepped up to fill the vacancies this season and that they gained a lot of experience that will pay off in the future.

“I like the direction we are going.  We have a great future ahead of us,” said Howard.
