BAAScratchboardDemoKen Mcfarlane, of Breckenridge, will demonstrate his work with Scratchboard Art at the Art Center located at 215 Fisk Avenue in downtown Brownwood from 1:30-3:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 8th. This educational event is free and open to the public. Brownwood Art Association Members are asked to arrive at 1 p.m. for a brief meeting before the demonstration begins.

“Ken is bringing scratchboard for everyone present to use, attendees are requested to bring something to scratch with such as an Exacto knife or other sharp pointed instrument and a #2 pencil,” said Brownwood Art Association Board Member Robert Priddy.

Commonly referred to as scraperboard, scratchboard refers to both a medium as well as an illustrative technique using sharp knives and various tools for etching into a thin layer of white China clay that is coated with black India ink. Scratchboard can be used to yield highly detailed, precise and evenly textured artwork.

Ken is widely known for his dramatic scratch board art, as well as his oil portraits. He is currently the President of the Breckenridge Art Guild and is involved in teaching art classes through the Breckenridge Fine Arts Center in Breckenridge, Texas. Ken has won many awards for his art work, and is represented at a number of galleries throughout Texas. View his body of work on his website www.muleheadstudios.com.
