Brownwood News – The head football coach for San Antonio MacArthur High School has been placed on administrative leave after being arrested for assault.

Benjamin David Cook, 45, was arrested in the City of Early in the early morning hours of Sunday, October 6.  Cook bonded out of the Brown County Jail on a $10,000 bond Sunday.

According to the Early Police Department Facebook page, Early Police were dispatched to the 200 block of Early Boulevard to a motel regarding a female screaming for help.  Several hotel occupants had reached out to the desk clerk along with a 911 call from a room where a female reported being assaulted.   Officers learned the male in the room had strangled the female and physically assaulted her.  After investigation, Cook was placed under arrest and charged with assault family violence impeding breath/circulation which is a 3rd degree felony.

A spokeswoman for the North East Independent School District said Cook will be placed on administrative leave until the investigation is complete.  Cook has been the head coach since 2011.
