Sammie Lou Thomas Ferrigan, 67, of Isle of Palms, SC, wife of Robert Thomas Ferrigan died Saturday, July 26, 2014. Her Celebration of Life will be held Tuesday, July 29, 2014 in the Sunrise Presbyterian Church, 3222 Middle Street, Sullivan’s Island, at 2:00 pm. The family will receive friends Monday, July 28, 2014 in the J. HENRY STUHR, INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Burial will be held 2:00 PM Friday, August 1, 2014 in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, May, Texas.

Sammie Lou was born August 6, 1946 in Brady, Texas, daughter of the late Samuel Wilson Thomas and Edna T. McMurry Thomas. She attended Belmont University, where she was named Homecoming Queen, and was a graduate of Murray State University in Kentucky. She worked as a passionate educator in Charleston and Greenwood County Schools prior to becoming a Realtor for more than 25 years. Known as “Selling Sammie” she was a consistent Top Producing Agent. Sammie Lou was an active member and Elder of Sunrise Presbyterian Church, where she also taught Sunday School. She was a member of the Island Turtle Team, and was instrumental in having the Loggerhead Sea Turtle named as State Reptile in June of 1988. Sammie Lou treasured her family more than anything else. Her generosity was boundless. Her smile was contagious. In the face of adversity, she was always full of grace and kindness. Her faith in God was the foundation of her strength and ever-lasting hope. She was the quintessential example of a “lady.”

Sammie Lou is survived by her daughters, Melissa Sweeney Morrell and her husband Tony Morrell of Greenville, SC, and Marjorie Sweeney Silbiger and her husband Dr. Adam Silbiger of Daniel Island, SC; her son, Tradd Sweeney of Mt. Pleasant, SC; her sisters, Darlene Hooks of Summerville, SC, and Maranita Grossmann and her husband Glenn Grossmann of Brentwood, TN; her step-son, John Ferrigan and his wife Mary of Cincinnati, OH; her step-daughter, Mollie Brumm and her husband Paul of Cincinnati, OH; five granddaughters, Ashley Caroline Morrell, Hannah Marjorie Morrell, London Grace Silbiger, Emma Ferrigan, and Ruby Brumm; and three grandsons, Anthony Kyber Erwin “Ty” Morrell, Sullivan Stephen Silbiger, and Colin Ferrigan. She was preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Roswell Hooks, and her sister, Kara Lynn Gwynne-Vaughan.
