salvationarmyThe Salvation Army has recognized that hard economic times in the community have created a need to help families with school supplies for the upcoming school year.

“Unemployment checks have been held,” said Donna Harris, Director of the Brownwood Salvation Army.  “Although they are coming, we just don’t know when.”

Harris stated that last week alone she had over ten phone calls requesting assistance with school supplies.   This started her on a campaign to round up the needed supplies.  Harris stated that companies that would like to help by placing a drop box in their place of business can call the Salvation Army office to volunteer at 325-646-5369.

Chili’s and Kroger have signed up to be a drop off location so far.

All needy school children will be beneficiaries of the drive.  Supplies will be available for pick up the week before school starts.  Parent(s) will need to come to the Salvation Army at 403 Lakeside Drive in Brownwood and show verification that their children are registered in school to qualify for the assistance.  A report card or other written verification will satisfy this requirement.  The first day of school is August 23rd.

Below are the basic supplies that are being suggested.  Some schools and grades will have additional items on their lists which will be gladly accepted as well.
