RiceFuneral services for Rubye May Rice, age 79, of Brownwood will be held at 2 PM Monday, January 5, 2015 at the Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel with Derric Bonnot officiating.  Burial will follow at Greenleaf Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 12 noon until service time at the funeral home.  Mrs. Rice passed away December 30, 2014 at Brownwood Regional Medical Center.

Rubye Mae Long Rice was born February 2, 1935 to Bob & Annie Mae Long in Tahoka, Texas. She was the oldest of eight children and grew up helping raise all of them. Their family moved around due to her dad’s job, so they finally settled in Brownwood, Texas where she graduated in 1953. After having two girls of her own she started pursuing her Bachelor’s degree in Education and graduated from ASU in August of 1972. She was a teacher for 21 years in Forsan, Glasscock County and Klondike, all Texas School Districts. After retiring she was a homemaker, loved traveling and enjoying her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Rubye was a Baptist, strong in her faith.

She was preceded in death by her father Bob Long, her mother Annie Mae Long, brothers Larry Neil Long, Bobby Gene Long, Fred Merle Long and one nephew, Jeff Long. She is survived by her husband Garner Rice of Brownwood, a daughter Kay Woodley Chandler and her husband Kenneth of Weatherford, Texas; a daughter Karen Woodley Spottswood and her husband Hal of Granbury, Texas; a grandson Matt McCraney of Coppell, Texas; two granddaughters, Stormi Chandler Bryan and her husband Chris of Weatherford, Texas and Meagan McCraney Bonnot and her husband Derric of  Flower Mound, Texas; six great-grand children, Bentley, Emery, Slayde, Coulter, Levi Jak and Ollie; two brothers Don Long of Austin, Texas and Robert Long of Lubbock, Texas; two sisters Annette Long Parsley and her husband Gordon of Mississippi and Betty Long Carroll and her husband Jarrell Carroll of Big Spring, Texas; as well as many nieces and nephews whom she loved very much.

Pallbearers will be Matt McCraney, Derric Bonnot, Chris Bryan, Randy Long, Justin Hobbs, and Jamie Womble.

In lieu of flowers we ask that you donate to Warm Springs Rehab Hospital, Gonzalez, Texas in honor of her son-in-law Kenneth.
