HubbardPaulineRuby Pauline Hubbard, the first of ten children, was born on June 19, 1917 to Lenard Brantley Hough, Sr. and Elsie Densmore George Hough in Coleman.  Having lived 99 years on this earth, she had the unique experience of traveling on a horse and buggy when they moved to Oklahoma in 1919 and then on a covered wagon when they returned to Texas in 1923.  On Friday, October 7, 2016, she left this world to meet her Savior, Jesus, and is now dancing on the streets of gold.

Pauline married Allen Aston Hubbard on January 15, 1936 in Coleman.  They moved to Abilene, where she worked at Thornton’s Department Store in Abilene for many years.  In her retirement years, Pauline actively participated in many activities at the Senior Center in Abilene, from teaching swing and square dance to coordinating the quilting group and various other activities.  She often told her family that she “was serving the elderly,” well into her 80s.  In her 90s, she was known to organize a game of dominoes after the evening meal at Ridgecrest Retirement Center and participated in the daily activities there.  Pauline was an excellent seamstress throughout her adult life.  She also loved to quilt, cook and square dance.  After the death of her husband, Allen, in 1985, Pauline continued to live in Abilene.  She moved to Waco in 2007 to be near her son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Pat.

Survivors include one son, Bob Hubbard and wife, Pat, of Waco; three sisters, Christine McDonald of Artesia, New Mexico, Hattie Samuelson of Texas City, Lou Koch of Kerrville; three grandchildren, Toni Peel and husband, Wayne, of Waco, Hal Hubbard and wife, Jennifer, of Houston, Cheryl Leitgeb and husband, Keith, of Palatine, Illinois; eight great grandchildren, Jeff Peel and wife, Jenny, of Waco, Kevin Peel of Marble Falls, Mikelle Furman and husband, Evan, of Austin, David Hubbard and wife, Stephanie of Victoria, Allison Hubbard, Cassidi Hubbard, LeighAnn Mount and husband, Andrew, and Todd Leitgeb, all of Houston.  Also surviving are four great-great grandchildren, Harper Peel, Cooper Peel, McKenzie Hubbard and Brantley Hubbard as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Beside her parents and husband, Pauline was preceded in death by three sisters, Lorene Baker, Lucille Rittimann, Jean Stevens; three brothers, L.B. Hough, Jr., David “Pete” Hough, and James Hough.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like to suggest a donation to The Hospice Place, 6700 Sanger Avenue, Waco, Texas 76710, with a notation on the check of PHP in the memo line.  Donations will go to the Hospice Patient Care Unit at St. Catherine’s where the doctors and staff so lovingly care for their patients the end their life.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 15, 2016 at Stevens Funeral Home, 400 West Pecan Street, Coleman, with Rev. Tom Pelt officiating.  Burial will follow in the Coleman City Cemetery.  Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.  Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 pm Saturday, October 15, 2016 at the funeral home.
