Our hearts are heavy, tears come easily, sorrow fills us and dictates our wakeful moments. Mother has gone on without us; she is now in the arms of our Lord. It is hard, so hard to be joyful, to know her earthly struggle is over, to give up our selfish need for her physical presence here with us. Her love, generosity, kindness, compassion will be greatly missed. Please pray for those of us left behind. We need God’s strength, wisdom, courage and comfort more than ever. We love you Mother.

Ruby cherished her family and loved any and every opportunity to come together to fellowship and enjoy a meal. Time was often spent playing Mexican Train, board games, and cards. She never threw the game to allow the grandkids to win; she was out for blood when the games were on! A lot of quality time was spent with her daughter sewing and quilting.  She enjoyed watching TV series and outings with her son.

Ruby was born on July 1, 1936 in Brownwood, Texas to Cecil and Lois B. Harris. She was a graduate of Bangs High School and married Gyeten Goodwin on June 26, 1955 at her parent’s home in Brown County. Ruby had to opportunity to make many friends throughout the United States as she and Gyeten moved from area to area during his employment with the U.S. Forest Service. Ruby enjoyed gardening and was an excellent seamstress and quilter. She returned to the Brownwood area in 1994 and member of the First Baptist Church in Brownwood. She loved being a part of numerous groups and organizations:  the Beacon Sunday School class, the McDaniel’s Extension Club, the Brown Extension Education Club, the Senior Citizen’s Center, the Republican Women, the Brownwood Quilt Guild, the Dam Quilters, and most recently the Stone Creek Scrappers sewing group.
