Roy Parrack will retire from the Department of Public Safety (DPS) with over 39 years in law enforcement. 32 years and 8 months have been in service to the people of the state of Texas.
He began his career in law enforcement in 1972 at the age of 16 as a cadet with the Stephenville Police Department, where he attended certification school and continued to work for SPD until he was 19 years old.
Roy then went to work for Tarleton State University campus police before joining the Abilene Police Department in 1977. He served as a patrolman and later as an investigator with the Youth Division before joining DPS in January 1982.
Roy’s first duty station was with the Texas Highway Patrol in Brownwood, Texas. Roy became entrenched in the Brownwood area and would later return. In 1989, Roy promoted to Sgt. In the Motor Vehicle Theft Service of DPS and was stationed in Hurst. During this time, Sgt. Parrack was cross trained as a US Customs Officer, spending numerous weeks working the Texas/Mexico border throughout his DPS career.
Later, he transferred to San Angelo and then back to Brownwood where he will retire as a Criminal Investigator. Throughout his career with DPS he has conducted criminal investigations with other agencies in numerous counties of Texas. He area of responsibility has included Tarrant, Earth, Hood, Somervell, Johnson, Tom Green, Concho, Runnels, Sutton, Crockett, Kimble, Irion, Robert Lee, Schleicher, Coke, Sterling, Menard, McCulloch, Young, Callahan, Taylor, Nolan, Mitchell, Scutty, Fisher, Jones, Shackelford, Stephens, Kent, Stonewall, Haskell, Throckmorton, Coleman, Comanche, Mills, Mason, San Saba, Eastland, and Brown Counties.
Roy is certified as a Firearms instructor, holds a Master Peace Officer’s Certificate and is also a certified teacher, conducting multiple classes and schools on auto theft for DPS and other agencies. He is considered as an expert in the United States on Chevy truck thefts. Roy was awarded the silver star for bravery by the American Police Hall of Fame for his efforts and bravery under fire during the Luby’s massacre and mass murder in 1991.
A retirement reception will be held honoring Roy for his years of outstanding service in law enforcement at the Texas 4H Center Friday, August 26th from 3:30-5:00.
