Tuesday Afternoon Update: Texas Department of Public Safety released the names of the men involved in the Monday afternoon rollover accident just south of Brownwood on Hwy 377S.
The driver, identified as 21-year-old John Gabriel Perez-Mitchell of Bangs, was reported to have been treated and released from the hospital with only minor injuries.
The passenger who was airlifted from the scene of the accident has been identified as 28-year-old Cody Loyd of Brownwood. Family members state that Loyd remains hospitalized at Scott & White in Temple in critical but stable condition. He suffered a broken back, but is reported to be moving his extremities, said family. He also broke his femur, ribs on both sides, both clavicles, an arm, and an orbital socket. Family reports that he will be undergoing surgery to start repairing some of these broken bones this afternoon.Original Article: Brown County emergency responders were called to a one-vehicle rollover accident Monday afternoon which resulted in one occupant of the vehicle being flown by helicopter for treatment.
The accident occurred at approximately 2:45 PM, 3 miles from Brownwood on US Hwy 377 South at the intersection of County Road 233. According to Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Chris Delgado, the accident was caused by driver fatigue.
Trooper Delgado stated that the Chevrolet 2500 single cab pickup was traveling north on Hwy 377, just before CR 233. The vehicle traveled slightly off of the roadway and for an unknown reason, entered the bar ditch, striking the culvert at the intersection of the county road, which caused the vehicle to go airborne, said Delgado. He stated that the vehicle then landed, sliding and striking a historical marker sign and some mailboxes, then rolled onto its top and landed upright when it came to a stop.
Both male occupants of the vehicle, the 21-year-old driver and 28-year-old passenger were not wearing seatbelts and were both ejected from the vehicle said Delgado. The passenger suffered life-threatening injuries and was flow to the hospital for treatment in critical condition. The driver was reported to have been injured but was up walking around when the wreck was reported. The driver was later transported for treatment by ambulance.
Both men worked for Brookesmith Special Utility District.
