8:15 PM update – The Texas Department of Public Safety issued a press release and the identity of the victim of the Sunday afternoon rollover accident.
-Brown County, TX – The Texas Department of Public Safety was called to the scene of a one-vehicle rollover in Brown County, 15 miles north of Brownwood. This crash occurred at 2:50 PM Sunday on Highway 279, three-tenths of a mile south of County Road 106.
Susan Swindle, W/F, 51 years of age from Abilene, TX was driving the 2002 Ford Excursion southbound on Highway 279, traveling to Austin, TX. The vehicle left the roadway to the left, through a fence and overturned several times. Judge Bob Wall pronounced Swindle dead at the scene at 3:00 PM. The body was taken to Heartland Funeral Home in Early, TX. Swindle was wearing a seat belt. The next of kin has been notified. Texas DPS Trooper Michael Sams is investigating the crash.
Original Story – First responders were called to a rollover accident Sunday afternoon north of Lake Brownwood near the intersection of Highway 279 and County Road 106 which resulted in the death of an Abilene woman, according to officials on scene.
At approximately 2:50 PM, the driver was traveling south on Highway 279 in a Ford Excursion when it left the road, crashed through a fence and rolled into a pasture, coming to a stop upside down.
Texas Department of Public Safety officials state that the investigation determined that the female driver was traveling 69 mph at the time of the crash in the 70 mph zone. The likely cause of the accident was a blowout on the vehicle’s left front tire according to DPS officials on scene.
The identity of the driver is not being released at this time pending notification of next of kin.
DPS Trooper Michael Sams is in charge of the investigation. According to first responders on scene, the driver was wearing her seat belt at the time of the crash.
Texas Department of Public Safety, Brown County Sheriff’s Office, and Lake Bridge Volunteer Fire Department responded to the accident scene.
