Roger was born on January 21, 1951, in Lincoln, Arkansas to Gerald and Sybil (Lofton) Hutchens; he was one of four children. Roger spent most of his childhood in Benbrook and then the family moved to the Winchell area where he spent most of his teenage years. Roger graduated from Brookesmith High School in 1971.

In 1973, Roger married Brenda Gay Platter; they had two children, Theron Dale (1975) and Kendra Gayle (1979). Roger was a truck driver, so the family spent time in the San Angelo area before settling down in Brownwood. He loved his family and loved his grandchildren most of all. In 1998, his first grandchild, Michaela Paige, was born and the second Britton Dale in 2001.

Roger was the life of the party and always being a jokester. Even while in the nursing home, one could find him flirting with the nurse’s aides. He loved chocolate and could drink chocolate milk or milkshakes with every meal. He enjoyed listening to the radio, especially Dallas Huston for the Brownwood Lions. He enjoyed the Dallas Cowboys, reading history books, and taking his grandkids on long walks around the neighborhood while telling them stores from his childhood.

Roger is survived by his wife, Brenda of Brownwood; daughter, Kendra Riley of Granbury; son, Theron Hutchens of Early; granddaughter, Michaela Riley of San Angelo; grandson, Britton Hutchens of Mobile, Alabama; sister, Susan Johnston of Water Valley; and brother, Gary Hutchens of Brownwood. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Sybil Hutchens; and a brother, Frank Hutchens of Water Valley.

The family would like to thank the staff at Songbird Lodge for taking care of Roger the last few years, Dr. Strefling for his care throughout Roger’s many surgeries, and Blaylock Funeral Home for taking care of the arrangements during this time.
