During this weekend’s Brownwood Reunion Celebration, the Brownwood Municipal Police Association (BMPA) held Brown County’s only speed climbing competition and winners were announced Sunday afternoon at the rock wall at the festival.

Jack Robinson was the junior winner with the fastest speed and Patrick Boutelle won the senior division of the climbing contest.

Each contestant entering the event was able to try three times to climb the rock wall.  The fastest time for each climber was counted toward the contest.  Proceeds from the event will be used to sponsor local scholarships and education for Brown County youth through the BMPA.  Prizes were sponsored by Aaron’s Furniture.

Jack Robinson of Zephyr is a 14-year-old freshman at Brownwood High School and completed his climb in 22 seconds.  His prize was a Laptop Computer valued at $825.  Jack was also a winner in this year’s Brownwood Reunion 10K run held on Saturday placing first in his age division.  Jack is on a competitive gymnastics team and often climbs the rock wall at Seal Gymnastics.  He is also on the high school cross country team. He also recently qualified for All-District Choir with BHS.

Boutelle achieved the climb in just 10 seconds to win a 46” Panasonic plasma TV valued at $950.  He is a 26-year-old and owner of the Aquatic Center who swims at his business and rock climbs frequently at Lake Brownwood.

The competition began at 5:00 PM on Friday, September 20th and continued through Reunion weekend.
