Brownwood High School Lady Lions Golf Team member Sydney Roberts competed in the Region 1 Round Up Tournament in Lubbock and placed 3rd. The tournament was held at the Shadow Hills Golf Course, where the regional golf tournament will be held this spring.
Although the team did not place in the top ranks, Roberts shot a 79-78-157 to secure the 3rd place individual score during the two day tournament in Lubbock Friday and Saturday. Roberts is a freshman at Brownwood High School and is the daughter of Jeff and Diane Roberts.
The tournament was held on a chilly and windy weekend, but despite the weather, Roberts managed to finish just 2 strokes behind 2nd place.According to BHS Golf Coach Laura Martin, the two girls who placed ahead of Sydney have qualified for state the past two years. When asked if she has been surprised by Roberts success on the course as a freshman, Martin stated, “I am not surprised Sydney is doing this well. She has been playing AJGA (American Junior Golf Association) tournaments for several years,” said Martin. “I’m looking forward to a great year.”
The BHS Lady Lions golf team includes Roberts, Jessica Barrera, Krista Fragua, Sierra Yancey and Audrey McKillip. Other schools participating in the tournament included Andrews, Snyder, Lampasas and Seminole.
